screen-shot-2016-10-23-at-11-17-34-pmI started a new project. It’s a 1977 Yamaha XS750 I picked up in Virginia for $120. It obviously doesn’t run, but the engine kicks over and the frame seems straight.

My plan is to strip it down to the frame and build an entirely new bike in its place. I think the XS750 is rad, but I may not keep it. From this bike I might only use the frame, but we shall see.

As of October 4, 2016, I’ve separated the frame and the engine. I have the engine sitting on an engine stand waiting for me to clean up, check compression and make it look pretty. I’m about half way through detabbing the frame. I found a place nearby that does powder coating. I’m going to have the frame and wheels powder coated black for about $300 ($200 for the frame and $100 for the wheels). That includes prepping the frame and wheels to be coated – sandblasting or whatever.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to use the stock fork, so I need to dig up some brake calipers, pads, new tubes and a fresh set of gaskets for it.

The serial number on this bike is IJ7-104036. The model is an XS7502D.
